A PLANTING PLAN FOR ENCOURAGING BEES & OTHER POLlINATORS IN A SUBURBAN GARDEN
The brief was great - simply plant it up with loads of color and to encourage bee’s and other pollinators.
Here were two similar sized borders on heavy clay within a sunny suburban garden. Both were packed full of established plants and trees: one including an Olive tree and two raised beds. The other a South facing slope, with some Hornbeam and Apple trees up against the fence.
I started off with a Botanical Survey and planned to re-purpose as many plants as possible while creating more cohesion between the two borders.
All the plants we were moving were dug up carefully and placed in bags to store until the rest of the plants arrived. We ended up planting in November, so were chancing it with frosts, but luckily all the plants I had chosen were hardy enough and the bulbs went in just as the frosts arrived. The garden has since flourished and I wrote a Maintenance Plan for the client, who was busy out there and enjoying it when I popped over to see how things were getting on. Another happy gardener!
